• Rich in Omega-7, 3, 6, 9, and antioxidants
• Over 190 well-balanced and bioactive phytonutrients: lipids, flavonoids, minerals, vitamin A, B, C, natural E complex, K,etc. Vitamin C value tops all the fruits we commonly consume
• Great healing effect, helps tissue repair
• Anti-inflammatory elements
• Anti-oxidants fighting free radicals
• Cellular support

Yes! It is so great.

But wait a seond and think about it. More than half of the nutrients and active molecules are not fat soluble. They are not present in the sea buckthorn oil at all. They are in the water-soluble part, which turned into this Sea Buckthorn extract.

What is more, this extract is 4:1 concentrated extract, which means every gram of the extract is equivalent to four grams of Sea Buckthorn berry.

“Sjogren’s syndrome is an autoimmune disorder characterized by degeneration of the mucus-secreting glands, particularly the tear ducts of the eyes (lacrimal) and saliva glands of the mouth. Autoimmune disorders are caused when the body’s natural defenses (antibodies, lymphocytes, etc.) against invading organisms suddenly begin to attack healthy tissue. Sjogren syndrome is also associated with inflammatory disorders such as arthritis or lupus,”
– WebMD.com.

It is estimated to affect almost 4 million people in the United States alone, making it the second most common autoimmune rheumatic disease.

A typical symptom of Sjögren’s Syndrome is red, itchy, irritated eyes. Although the hallmark symptoms are dry eyes and dry mouth (also known as “sicca syndrome”), individuals may also experience extreme fatigue, joint pain and have a higher risk of developing lymphoma. Sjögren’s may also cause dysfunction of other areas such as the kidneys, blood vessels, liver, pancreas, and the central nervous system. Approximately 90% of individuals with Sjögren’s Syndrome are female.

Omega-7 essential fatty acids from sea buckthorn are especially helpful for this problem. Sea Buckthorn contains a very high concentration of nutrients due to the fact that it’s grown in such a harsh environment. There are over 190 nutrients in Sea buckthorn oil including vitamin E, beta-carotene, tocotrienols and omega-7. Sea buckthorn berries contain a full spectrum of Omega fatty acids, including the rare Omega-7. These unusual berry oil extracts have been clinically studied to improve skin and mucous membrane hydration. There are excellent studies on showing that sea buckthorn oil taken internally reduced dryness of the eye, as well as dryness of the mouth and vagina, or any other dry mucous membrane.

There are also clinical studies using sea buckthorn oil for Sjogren’s syndrome.

The clinical study conducted in at the Gynecology Center of Turku, Finland, clearly demonstrated beneficial effects of Sea Buckthorn oil on conditions of genital tract mucosa – all typical symptoms, itching, burning, pain, liquid secretion and dryness in the genital tract mucosa were significantly improved.

In a research carried out by Dr. Kallio, with one hundred participants in the clinical trial, oral sea buckthorn oil significantly attenuates tear film osmolarity and symptoms in individuals with dry eye.

Dr. Mozaffarian from Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, MA, concluded that “people who have higher levels of blood trans-palmitoleic acid have a significantly lower risk of diabetes mellitus, as well as other metabolic risk markers.”

According to this cohort study from 1992 to 2006 on about four thousand U.S. adult patients, “Higher trans-palmitoleate levels were associated with slightly lower adiposity and, independently, with higher high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, lower triglyceride levels, a lower total cholesterol–HDL cholesterol ratio, lower C-reactive protein levels, and lower insulin resistance. Trans-palmitoleate was also associated with a substantially lower incidence of diabetes, with multivariate hazard ratios. “

The above results and conclusion are from Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian’s research paper “Trans-Palmitoleic Acid, Metabolic Risk Factors, and New-Onset Diabetes in U.S. Adults”, which was published in the December 21, 2010 issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine.

Omega-7 is a series of essential fatty acids derived from palmitoleic acid.

What does Omega-7 do in our body?
Omega-7 fatty acids are not produced by human body; yet, they are the principle constituents of our cell membranes that make up the skin and the mucous membranes of the digestive system, the respiratory tract, and the urinal-genital tracts. Omega-7 fatty acids promote tissue regeneration and anti-inflammatory action in the skin and mucosa.

Where can we get Omega-7?

Omega-7 is rarely mentioned in the media; mainly because they are hard to find in our daily food (milk provides a low amount of Omega-7, while macadamia is the only other known plant source).Omega-7 series of essential fatty acids are derived from palmitoleic acid, and Sea Buckthorn contains a rich amount of palmitoleic acid (cis-16:1n-7) and its precursor palmitic acid. In Sea Buckthorn fruit oil, palmitoleic acid is the major dominating unsaturated fatty acid (up to 47%); and palmitic acid is the major saturated fatty acid (up to 28%). Palmitoleic acid is the key source of Omega-7’s amazing skin support properties. Palmitoleic acid is a naturally occurring component of healthy skin and is a highly effective antioxidant providing strong anti-aging support due to its ability to control free radicals.

1 g of sea buckthorn oil = 1.6 liter of milk for Omega-7!

The best source of Omega-7 is Sea Buckthorn
Omega-7 fatty acids are extracted from berries of the sea buckthorn plant (Hippopae rhamnoides), a shrub originated in the Himalayas. Sea Buckthorn provides flavonoids, water and fat-soluble vitamins, helpful plant lipids, and Omega 3, 6, 7, and 9 fatty acids. The oil extracted from sea buckthorn berries is a rich source of the essential polyunsaturated Omega-7 fatty acids (PUFAs), palmitoleic acid and cis-vaccenic acid. Relatively few plant species are good sources of these essential PUFAs.

In addition to the Omega-7 PUFAs, sea buckthorn oil is a good source of the PUFAs alpha-linolenic acid, linoleic acid, and oleic acid, as well as containing high levels of antioxidants (tocopherols, tocotrienols, carotenoids plant sterols and vitamin C). The essential PUFAs and antioxidants present in sea buckthorn oil act synergistically in maintaining healthy mucous membranes through out the body. The Omega-7 PUFA palmitoleic acid is of particular importance, because it confers fluidity to the membrane, whilst having a low susceptibility to oxidation. Omega-7 PUFAs, together with the other classes of Omega PUFAs present in sea buckthorn oil (and their metabolites) play an important role in regulating immune function and the inflammatory response.

The Latin name Hippophae rhamnoides means shiny horse. The legend went back thousands of years when ancient Greek army found that enemy horses feeding on the magical Sea Buckthorn berries not only survived in the jungles but became stronger with radiant hair.

Sea Buckthorn survives the hardest natural environments and flourishes from the snow mountain peaks of Himalaya to the desert of Mongolia plateau. Few would know that back in 12 centuries, the Mongolian warriors led by the great conqueror Genghis Khan depended on these little berries for vigor and stigma so as to beat the enemies. Genghis Khan was constantly out at war and Sea Buckthorn was believed to magically energize the force.

In Europe and Asia, Sea Buckthorn has been used for centuries for food and medicinal purposes. The fruit of sea buckthorn has been used in Tibetan and Mongolian traditional medicine for centuries. It was used for relieving cough?promoting digestion, enhancing blood circulation, alleviating pain and removing blood stasis.

Tibetans and Mongolians have been using sea buckthorn since ancient times. Sea Buckthorn’s nutritious and pharmaceutical values were documented in the Ancient Greek texts attributed to Theophrastus and Dioskorid, Encyclopedia of Tibetan Medicine “Tibetan Text of Rgyud Bzi”(The Four Books of Pharmacopoeia) dated to the times of Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) and in Pharmacopoeia of the People’s Republic of China (Kuang and Zhang 2005).

Sea Buckthorn contains large amounts of essential oils, flavonoids and vitamins. It is also the only plant source that provides omega 3, 6, 7 and 9 fatty acids. The vitamin C value virtually tops among all the fruits we commonly consume. Omega-7 is a rare nutrient that builds up the skin and membrane cells. Sea Buckthorn is rich in Omega-7 compared with other sources: 1g equals 1.6 liter milk for Omega-7.

Sea Buckthorn is extremely rich in vitamins (A, B, C, and E complexes), Beta carotenes, essential fatty acids (omega 7, 3, 6, 9), phytoserols, many flavonoids and numerous other nutrients. The berries are also rich in other vitamins such as B1, B2 and K. Sea Buckthorn flavonols contains quercetin and salicyns which are two of nature’s most powerful anti-inflammatories. A vast array of anti-oxidants are found in Sea Buckthorn berries in high concentration. Omega-7 palmitoleic acid is an essential component of the skin. Although omega-7 is rarely found in the plant kingdom, Sea Buckthorn oil can contain up to 50% omega-7 fatty acids.
